Chickens: How to have happy chickens

Sunday 7th August 2016

Price: £12 (members get a discount, contact me for more information)

When: Arrive 10am, finish around 12.30 pm.

Where: Ferne Animal Sanctuary, Chard, Somerset.

Maisie will explore chicken behaviour through comparisons with your everyday back garden hens and her own observations of a large flock of feral chickens. We will discuss how we can piece together this information to create happier, healthier chickens. This will involve out of the box thinking on ways we could re-vamp and improve the homes of our own feathered friends.

Suzanne will then provide a fascinating insight into chicken intelligence and cognition, reviewing the most recent scientific findings. She will then show videos of chickens who have been trained to do some simple tasks, and provide participants with a clear idea of how they could train their chickens if they wanted to.

We will visit the chickens at Ferne and observe them with some enrichment. This is a repeat of the very popular event we ran in Surrey in May 2016.
